I'm on a DIY framing boot correct at present, and dealing with all the artwork I've accumulated in the past year. I've as well discovered rare world magnets, which are proving very handy for various projects (like this wall organizer). Put the two together and you become a inexpensive and custom way to temporarily hang artwork that's like shooting fish in a barrel to swap out when you're fix to display something else.

  • Thin bit forest (wider and thicker than your magnets)
  • Rare globe magnets
  • Cocky-leveling picture hangers (optional)
  • Small center hooks (optional)
  • String (optional)
  • Saw (optional: y'all can too have it cut for y'all at the hardware store)
  • Drill
  • Forstner bit
  • Strong adhesive, like E6000

Instructions

one. Get-go measure your artwork and determine how big y'all'd like the frame to be.

2. Marking off the desired length on each of your pieces of wood, and cut them down to size. I wanted my frame to be the aforementioned width as the artwork — in this example, 20″ across.

3. Marker off ii holes on each cease of the ii forest strips. This is where your magnets will go. Y'all don't want them too shut together or too far autonomously. Mine are each about 3″ in from the ends of the wood.

four. Using the Forstner flake, drill each of the four holes, just deep enough for the magnets to nest inside.

You lot want the magnets to be flush with the wood once they are in the holes, like so.

5. Glue the four magnets in each of the holes. Let dry out completely. (Notation, the glue in the photo is Non what I wound up using. You need something really strong, like E6000, because those magnets are Strong.

Tip: The frame will somewhen act as a magnetic sandwich for the artwork, so brand sure the magnets are glued in the correct direction. You want one of each reverse poles facing facing up on each cease, then the magnets attract versus repel each other.

6. Flip the frame over and blast one of these metal movie hangers on the back. Simply make certain the nails you use are small plenty to go all the style through the frame.

Pick 2:

6. Drill a small starter pigsty with your drill chip into each end of the ane of the woods strips.

vii. Screw your small eye hooks. You'll utilize this for string to hang the frame.

Variations:

  • If you lot'd like the frame to blend in with the artwork more than, pigment it the appropriate colour with spray paint.
  • Add together some other bar on the bottom of the artwork to ensure it hangs straight and doesn't flutter effectually.
  • If the artwork is particularly heavy, add more magnets across the wooden bar.
